San Martino in Trieste

Dear guests of the Hotel Città di Parenzo,

as every month, our regular column on the main events and festivities of the current month is back. For the month of November, we will give space to a festival with a great resonance throughout the Trieste and Karst region: we are talking about the Feast of San Martino in Prosecco, a small village on the outskirts of Trieste!

The celebration is centred on the cult of Martin of Tours, patron saint of many Italian (and foreign) cities. The saint is commonly associated with rural, wine-growing areas: for this reason, he was chosen as the patron saint and protector of Prosecco, a place known throughout Italy for the production (like Veneto) of the wine of the same name.

During the week of the celebrations (4 November-11 November), the entire village comes alive with the bustle of tourists and visitors. On the main road through the village, stalls with typical local products are set up, run by various local producers. Near the historic centre, there is also a beautiful fun park full of attractions for children.

Throughout the Karst area, on the other hand, many catering establishments and ‘Osmize’ are ready to dispense wine, cheese, chestnuts and sausages, not forgetting the traditional sausages with sauerkraut, the main dish of this festivity.

Below is the complete programme for this year’s edition.

We hope we have intrigued you enough to want to come to Trieste to visit us and try the delights of the San Martino festival for yourself!
