The main Italian extra virgin olive oil fair returns to Trieste. Its strengths lie in the quality and promotion of Made in Italy, encompassing the entire breadth of our territory, from Umbria to Sicily, from Friuli Venezia-Giulia to Campania, including products from neighboring Slovenia and Greece.
During this major event – which will take place from March 8th to 10th, 2024, at the Trieste Convention Center in Porto Vecchio – participants will have the opportunity to discover, learn about, taste, and purchase oil directly from producers, who will provide information about the history, origin, and quality of the product.
Renowned restaurateurs and chefs will also be present, offering the best pairings of the various oils featured at the fair with exquisite dishes.

In conjunction with Olio Capitale, the idea of creating a virtual market entirely dedicated to the discovery and trade of olive oil excellence was born.
Currently, it is the only platform where one can discover and purchase excellent extra virgin oils, evaluated by a recognized and certified panel of qualified tasters.
In addition to being able to discover the many variations of oil on-site through tastings, products can also be conveniently ordered from home.

For the occasion, the Hotel Città di Parenzo – as a member of the Convention & Visitors Bureau – is offering a special promotion: tourists who stay at least 1 night in Trieste during the fair period will have the opportunity to obtain the entrance ticket for free; to obtain it, the reservation must be made directly to the Hotel Città di Parenzo (via phone call, email, or website) no later than Thursday, March 7th, 2024.

Boiled meat

t's impossible to pass through Trieste without tasting the most delicious and beloved dish since ancient times: the 'bollito misto alla triestina' (mixed boiled meat, Trieste style). It's essentially composed of various cuts of boiled pork meat served with mustard and grated 'kren,' a radish root with intense flavor. Despite its Austrian origin, the 'bollito' has become part of the Triestine tradition. Being a humble dish, it is very simple to prepare. You will need to place the various pieces of meat in a large pot and let them simmer in broth, often diluted with additional boiling water. Among the indispensable pieces are Vienna sausage, Cragno sausage (named after the Slovenian city of Kranij), cooked ham, porzina (pork coppa), Kaiserfleisch (bone-in fillet), and smoked ribs. An abundant portion of sauerkraut or, for simpler palates, the famous potato "in tecia" cannot be missing as an accompaniment. Perfect for consumption during the winter season, we recommend tasting it directly at typical city buffets, such as the historic Buffet da Pepi's, better known as Pepi S'ciavo, or the buffet at Siora Rosa's. Every self-respecting Triestine has their own trusted buffet, even just for a small "rebechin." Do you already have your trusted buffet? Just like the history of the city it hosts, Triestine culinary tradition represents a meeting point between Mediterranean and Central European cuisine, capable of blending extremely different yet unique flavors. Therefore, Trieste is not only about meat but also fish, such as sardines "in savor" or whipped cod...

Historic cafes

Vevo, Stendhal, Joyce, Saba... are just some of the names that have walked the streets of Trieste, but above all, they actively frequented the cafes of our city. Indeed, historically cafes were used as meeting places for cultural and ideological exchanges, or simply as places of reflection, where writers, as well as citizens, took a break during the day. And it is for this reason that in Trieste, some cafes enjoy the mention of being "historic locales", because within their walls they encapsulate the history of writers, of ordinary citizens, but above all they keep alive the tradition of "enjoying a good coffee". But why is Trieste also nicknamed the "city of coffee"? Because from the 18th century onwards, the port of Trieste represented the point of entry into Europe for coffee beans. In the city and its outskirts, coffee roasters were established over time, where coffee beans were roasted and prepared for grinding. Today, only a few roasting houses have survived... but that's a story we'll dedicate another page of our blog to 😉 Currently, there are five main historic cafes in the city that we recommend our guests to visit: Caffè degli Specchi, Caffè Tommaseo, Antico Caffè Torinese, Caffè San Marco, and Caffè Pasticceria La Bomboniera.
