La Lanterna (El pedocìn) seaside baths

The La Lanterna bathhouse, also known as ‘pedocìn’, is one of the most popular places for both locals and outsiders: barrier-free, it has showers and various services, including changing rooms, luggage storage and a heliotherapy centre. Its peculiarity is that the beach is cut in half by a wall, still dividing men and women. 

Topolini

The ‘Topolini’, which were completed around the 1930s, consist of semicircular terraces arranged along the shore facing the sea. Their name derives from the comic strip ‘Mickey Mouse’, their semi-circular shape reminiscent of the famous character's ears. Immediately below the terraces are changing rooms and showers. As of 2021, all Topolini have a name; here they are in descending order of collected preferences: Margherita Hack, Sandro Chersi, Mario Giacaz, Martin Jevnicar , Fulvio Varljen, Cesare Maldini, Ottavio Missoni, Ave Ninchi, Carpinteri & Faraguna, Primo Rovis.

Bagno Ausonia

This is a modern bathing facility. It is equipped with swimming pools, trampolines, various solariums, massage areas and even bars and restaurants; it can accommodate more than 2,000 people. Curiosity: it is still frequented by a loyal clientele of the over-sixties, but there is no shortage of newcomers and families, attracted by the ease of access and the many wellness and entertainment services for children.

Portopiccolo (Sistiana) and the free beaches along the Gulf of Trieste coastline

For those wishing to venture beyond the confines of the city centre, it is possible to visit the numerous free beaches located along the entire coastline in the direction of Monfalcone: Le Ginestre bay, the small harbour of Santa Croce, the free beach of Filtri, the Liburnia beach and the charming Costa dei Barbari, to name but a few.
